My wife helped me become a Food Lover

“My personal situation is that since I was a young child, my parents cooked a lot. We tended to eat a lot of food. We always had more than a helping on the table.

My wife started the Food Lovers program first. She asked me to help her because I’m the cook in the family, and I do love to cook. And as she started losing, I realized there was no reason that I shouldn’t be doing the same thing. So, I started eating with her, and together we lost over 130 pounds. She lost over 90 pounds, and I lost over 40 pounds, and we have kept it off for about six months or more now.

You’re still enjoying the food you like most

What’s the difference between a traditional diet and the Food Lovers Program, in my opinion, is that, a diet says, ‘You’re going to only eat certain things.’ You’ll only eat, depending on whose diet it is, certain food groups. And they will say, you must weigh every gram that you put in your mouth. The Food Lovers Program says, ‘Look at what you’re eating. Understand what’s in that food group you’re eating and then try control that while you’re still enjoying the food that you like to eat.’

Don’t starve yourself into submission

I have friends who have gone on the “eat nothing but beef and cheese” type of program. Sure, they lost weight at first. And then, you go see them in three to six months later, they’re right back up where they were before because their body is out of balance. The Food Lovers program allows your body to stay in balance by eating food regularly through the day, not starving yourself into submission.

It’s all about balance

What you learn from it, is that you don’t have to worry about going off ‘your diet’ because it’s not a diet. The whole idea is that, you’re conditioning your body to the right foods. You’ll eat well-balanced meals, and the times when you eat something other than what you’re supposed to, you don’t feel guilty about it. You just recognize that, ‘Well, I have to get back on, my healthy eating, not my diet, but my healthy eating – and my body will correct itself.”
